What We Do

Our Impact

The Challenges We Address

Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) face challenges that are deeply intertwined, persistent, and multidimensional. These challenges shape the daily lives, opportunities, and emotional well-being of women and children in Northern Uganda.

Unresolved Trauma

Stemming from abduction, sexual violence, forced marriages, and the loss of loved ones. Trauma manifests in anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal without access to proper care.

WAN Response: Therapist-led group sessions and peer support circles.

Family Separation

Many women returned from captivity to find their children missing or displaced, leaving fractured identities, disrupted bonds, and psychological pain.

WAN Response: Child tracing and family reconnection initiatives.

Economic Vulnerability

Many work in the economic margins, hiring out labor, porting water, or conducting petty trade. This perpetuates dependency and limits recovery.

WAN Response: Support via IGAs and VSLAs with seed capital.

What We Hope to Achieve

Healing & Resilience

Improved mental well-being, reclaimed voices, and strength beyond the endured violence.

Reconnection

Rebuilding lost bonds through child tracing, restoring emotional security and family roles.

Financial Independence

Gaining practical tools to generate income via VSLAs and IGAs, fostering self-reliance.

Sustained Impact

Strengthening WAN’s capacity to lead initiatives ensures ongoing spaces for healing and dignity.
